MPP Munro recongzied as longest serving female MPP

A former history teacher has made history at the Ontario legislature, becoming the province’s longest-serving female MPP with just shy of 22 years in office.

Politicians dropped their partisan gloves Monday to honour former cabinet minister Julia Munro from the riding of York-Simcoe, north of Toronto.

The Progressive Conservative was first elected in the 1995 Mike Harris sweep and has won every election since, hitting 7,944 days in office to coincide with International Women’s Week.
